BCC28-072 Tsunami

Douglas will hope today to start assessing damage to Calliste.

Haul-out facilities will likely be inundated with demand.

Douglas took a photo as the lead wave of the tsunami bounced off the
sea wall of Telaga Harbour and rebounded into the marina, crumpling
pontoons and throwing cruisers overboard. We, as a group, seem to
have filled the photo/file area to our limit; my efforts to post the
photo came to naught.

Death toll around the rim of the Indian Ocean is now around 13
thousand. But the number will rise … authorities in Penang have
counted 18 corpses, but relatives have reported people still missing.
Thai authorities are re-starting their search, now that dawn has
broken.

This was the first significant tsunami in the Indian Ocean since
1833. And so no alert system had been established.

Cheers
