Bond breaker tape and/or twine

I pulled the seam compound from my fwd scuttle hatch. Was happy to discover a bond breaker made of some kind of twine, almost like yarn. Anyone familiar with what this material is? I was reading about bond breaker tape, but this thicker, easier to lay in the groove twine stuff seems like a better idea. I suppose you could lay anything in there to make a bond breaker.
