Cabin Lights

Things are sometimes a little dim aboard Godspeed. I’ve got
two lights in the main cabin, one over each berth. But still, it is
often darker than I’d like at night. The lights are good enough
to read by, but that’s about it (they are factory installed so I’m
guessing its about the same in the other BCC’s).

I noticed on the Pardey’s boat, they have a brass pole from
floor to ceiling, and on the pole is a big lantern. I’m thinking of
doing the same, but instead installing an electric light
capable of lighting the entire cabin. I would repace the pole
that supports the table with one that runs floor to ceiling, thus
providing a place for lighting in the center of the cabin.

I’d be interested in hearing what others have done to bring
more light into the cabin.

Thanks,
Mark Gearhart

I haven’t actually lit anything up yet, but I am fascinated by the
possibilities offered by the
white L.E.D. lights hooked up to the Bayless clock generator in the
Freeplay Baygen Radio.
These things use so little power that I think you could wire a ton of them
as spot lighting or
strip lighting inside the cabin without serious drain off the boat’s
battery. The addition of a
clock generator would make for a virtually bulletproof emergency lighting
system…

I looked at the deepcreekdesign site, thinking I might use one of their
lights.
$150.00 is kinda steep for a light bulb. I don’t care how high tech it
is.

I agree the price is to high, although the low current drain does have
significant advantages for long distance cruisers.
You could potentially reduce the frequency which one has to run the engine
to recharge the batteries.
You would have to use this technology throughout the boat to really see
significant improvements in electrical consumption.
