max prop specs

Does anyone have a Max-Prop installed? Provided that you are happy
with it, what are the specs? (diameter, set pitch)

I have a Max Prop which I used without problems while
circumnavigating the world on my boat New World.
Pitch is determined by h.p. and transmission gear
ration. My engine is a 27 hp Volvo Penta and the
pitch is 10 degrees with a 16" diameter three blade
prop.

I am especially pleased with the reverse power which
is equal to forward.

There is some controversy about the specs for the Max-Prop. After several
email from BCC Group members and extensive correspondence with P.Y.I. and
with Roger Olson I have picked the 15 inch 3 blade Classic with 63mm hub.

Several members have 16 inch props with the pitch set at the low end of the
scale. P.Y.I. is now recommending that you not purchase the 16 inch (unless
it is a 2 blade) and then set the pitch so low. They are recommending that
you buy the 15 inch (3 blade) and set the pitch more mid range (10 inch
pitch). This change is because of negative feedback that they received from
Sam L Morse for specifying a 16 inch 3 blade with 11 inch pitch for one of
their customers.

All of this, of course is predicated on having a Yanmar 3GM30 engine with
2.61:1 transmission.
