how does everyone seal around the bitts? mine was nicely bedded in
some type of compound, but when i snugged the sprit in after stepping
the mast, it separated and i had to redo it. i used 3M 4200 and will
probably redo it next time, but what is the prefered material? thanks.

I had same problem and did what Roger suggested which solved the problem.
From below deck, tamp in some cotton seam wadding to fill the opening. Then
seal the top in front of each bitt with a polysulfide seam compound or other
flexible (when cured ) material. Taping around the area prior to applying
the Lifecaulk will insure a nice neat job.
Good Luck,
