need more prop pitch

I have an older bcc (Dilkara - hull no 14) It has a 10 hp Sabb Engine
with variable pitch prop. I have more than enough pitch in the prop
for reverse, but not enough in forward. I made all of the easy
adjustments, but have not solved problem. The only remainig way to
accomplish is to cut l/2" off prop shaft, but unfortunately the shaft
is frozen in the collar at the aft end of engine. Anyone out there
that has similar situation? If so let me know please.

Thanks, Larry Heitman

Larry-

I do not know the exact setup of the Saab, but regular collars tend
to be a bear. I had trouble getting mine off and it was only 6 years
old. Use lots of penetrating oil daily for a couple of days, then
generously apply heat with a torch. A little gentle percussion may
help to break the bond. If you can separate the coupling and get a
spacer (like a nut) between the output collar and the shaft, then
reinstall and slowly tighten the bolts, that may push the shaft out.
Be careful not to deform the collar though. One problem I had was
the locking bolts dimpled the shaft and the burr kept the collar from
sliding. After fooling around with it and repeating my error a
couple of times, I drilled shallow recesses for the bolt tips. Put
it back together with plenty of grease to decrease corrosion. Hope
this helps. Good luck.
