Refit

We are the owners of MISTY, hull #5, built in 1976. MISTY was
owner-finished and although the quality of craftsmanship is
excellent, systems are dated and the layout and use of space is
ineffficient.
We plan to gut the interior from bow to stern and would appreciate
input from other BCC owners on great and creative ideas they have or
have seen on other boats. In other words, if you could design your
“dream boat”, what would you include?? E-mail us at

!0 yrs of experiece on Adventure, Hull 79, circa 1998

This is a Morse built boat with a good basic interior design. The current boats by roger olsen have a number of improvements that you can see on the BCC web site or the unofficial site. . But his easy boy chair… I’m not so sure.

On Adventure I removed the force 10 keosene stove/oven and installed a 2 burner kero stove and built a cabinet with drawers under it replacing the oven. I opened up the sbd side of the engine compartment eliminating the lower half of the wet locker.
The space behind thework bench forward is wasted should be replaced by a cabinet. The standard control panel was too small and does not leave room for add on electronics, gages, switches etc. A stepped sole that would trap water aft of the galley is a good idea. Build in a control panel behind the frig for radar, cassete/radio, what ever. I’m not sure the slide out double berth is a
good idea on a serious cruising boat. Removing it would provide space for more storage.

The cabin htr exhaust is a problem because of the location of a structural bulkhead relative to the scuttle hatch and location of the forward cabin struture. Locate the htr (not force 10) so that the exhaust is large and has no bends.

Put in all radio ground straps/plate etc. before the carpentry work. It’s a real pain to retrofit this stuff.

Prisms don’t hack it in the lower latitudes.

Good luck,
