Hi Mark,

22 degrees was way too steep, and we ended up at 16 degrees, or 8.6

of pitch. The actual letter settings are x=C, y=K. This gave us
3600 rpm
with a clean bottom. We got a 300 rpm increase for each 2 degree
change.”

Max prop Item # 63-316,
16" 3 blades,
16 degrees,
8.6 inches of pitch,
x = C
y = K

I hope it will help your prop setting

John,
I am curious if you know the setting for pitch for your
Maxprop. I have

the same 3GM27 and 3 blade Maxprop. I seem to get hull speed at
about
2400

RPM . I understand that perhaps hull speed should be achieved at
clsoer
to

full RPM of about 3000 RPM.

The prop gererallly works great and have had no problems as long
as I keep

it clean.
I am in the Hudson River and in July and August I need to don
the mask to

keep it clean as the river water warms causing an accumulation of
slime
and

then barnacles can grow with surprising speed.

I am still looking for a good feathering prop for my BCC. I
have a

trusty 28 HP Volvo Penta ‘2003’ (made on 1988). My little
fixed 2

blade prop does reasonably OK in forward…I am looking to
upgrade

motoring speed (around 4.5-5 knots currently) and reduce fuel
use

and sailing drag.

Does any one here actually use a 3 blade PYI Max-Prop? That
is my

top choice right now…

Does anyone think that there is no useful reduction in drag
from a

fixed 2 blade to a feathering 3 blade?

Thanks,

You should be getting more than that out of your 28 HP engine
if the

prop is right, I would think. I suspect you may be
underpitched. Do

you easily reach full RPM? I had a fixed 3 blade, switched to
a 3

blade MaxProp. No regrets. Do a search on this board
for “maxprop”;

lots of info available. Do not know about difference in drag
between

a 2 blade. If it can be aligned with the “deadwood”, drag
should be

decreased, but I suspect most people would find it too much
bother to

do so routinely.
