My name is Richard and I have been an avid sailor my whole life. Growing up cruising with my family through the Moorings and later in life getting into offshore racing.
I’ve been based in the San Diego area for the last decade and have enjoyed long-distance offshore racing for the last few years. Regional races include lots of Newport to Ensenada races, Islands Race, Socal300, Long Beach Race Week, and the crown on top: TransPac2023.
I recently did the Chicago-Mac race which was an absolute blast.
Having a ~2-year-old and ~4-year-old at home, it’s time to share the art of sailing with my kids. I have been dreaming about a BCC28 for years though am not quite ready.
I am aligned with Lyle Hess’s design and ethos so have landed on wanting to get a Montgomery 23 to begin the kid’s adventure with a bite-sized, safe, pocket cruiser. I intend to explore the channel islands out of Long Beach and Santa Barbara, hit the lakes up and down the west coast, and perhaps explore the Salish Sea/Puget Sound area.
One day, I will be the proud skipper of a BCC28.
