3GM30F Cooling Sys Flush n Clean

Now that I have a little extra time, I would like to flush my Yanmar cooling system and replace the antifreeze coolant.

Does anyone have a proceedure to follow and reccomendation on how to do this.

What cleaner to choose, and what coolant is compatable with the Yanmar ?

I have about 2600 hrs on this 1990 3GM30F and noticed a little wicking and corrosion on the heat exchanger end caps area .

Would it be time for a rod out and rebuild of the heat exchanger ?

I did price new motor mounts here in Singapore , they listed at USD$ 102.00 each, ouch !

Doug,
You might want to read the thread on Shaula’s heat exchanger adventure(search “heat exchanger”) in Dec 08. It all started with a slow leak at the end caps. The big O-rings that seal the caps eventually harden and leak. While I had the caps off, I decided to pull out the exchanger and check for scale.

I think you can use any good car anti-freeze coolant that includes corrosion inhibiter–I guess most do? I usually use about 50:50 anti-freeze to water. While you’ve got the fresh water system drained, you can check the thermostat with a thermometer in a can of water, heated on the stove. The Yanmar manual says replace them fairly often, although I haven’t. Checking them is probably a good idea though.
