A Gaff Rigged BCC

Second try to post. I apologise if this is a duplicate of last weeks
message.

I’ve been a BBC admirer for more than twenty years, and lurking
through the archives found an old discussion on gaffed rigged BBCs.
There is at least one, Dilkara, finished from a hull only kit near
Boston by Lex and Jill White. I think she was launched in 1980.

I cruised in company with them in the Bahamas around 1981-83 or so.
She had a Serrafyn layout, huge heavy Sabb diesel that had to be
handstarted, as the boat had no electrical system. No head either,
just the cedar bucket. They installed a head in the forepeak across
from the double berth as a condition of sale,

After they finished their cruise theydecided to sell the boat on the
Cheasapeake; I helped Lex deliver the boat up the bay in a November
NE
gale, all to windward. The boat was just outstanding in those
conditions, wouldn’t point like my old fin keeler of course, but we
still made excellent progress to windward, cracked off a bit she
flew.
After that trip, I loved the rig. (I bought plans for a Falmouth
from
Lyle Hess about 1978, he included a gaff sailplan for that design as
well.

A couple of years ago Dilkara was advertised for sale in a classified
add in Cruising World. NOAA shows her current owner as LAWRENCE R
HEITMAN, 9510 Kenyon Lake Rd, Holly MI 48442.

Her hull number is listed as SFJBC0141276. Is that hull #14, finished
December 1976?

yes, hull #14. the last 4 digits are the date of manufacture mm/yy. for
glass boats that is the time that hull layup was initiated, not the
completion/launch date.
