I apologize to all of you and most especially to Roger Olson. I responded to a general question about the price of a BCC these days and I was off by about $100,000.
I responded for memory with out given the topic sufficient thought.
Below is a response I received from Roger Olson, it should rectify and clarify my error.
Rogers response to me....
Steve,
I was just reviewing some of the comments on the BCC chat site and noticed that you commented that the price for a new BCC is $256K. I am not sure where you got that but it is far from correct. The cost for a standard BCC with the items as listed on our web site under "Features" is $150,910. If we add all teak exterior $4,044; ABI manual windass $1,766 installed; VHF radio $722; Pressure hot and cold water (110V AC and Engine) $1,957. These are the most popular items chosen today. This totals to $159,399. I cannot imagine what else you would add to put another $100,000 to that price. As a basic boat this still ends up being $11.5 dollars a pound with all the options mentioned. That is cheap compared to other boats.
I hate to say it but we will be having an 8% increase soon....this will still be far under the number you quoted.
I don't respond to the BCC group because I don't feel I should get involved with the discussions and each person has their own opinion....which is healthy and creates more thought. However, when I see a gross error I will bring it to "that" individual's attention just so "that person is aware of the error". Even now I may be off base talking to you but in the history of our company we have never built a BCC for that much money..... I must admit that with enough electronics and a huge sail inventory that could bring the price up to that number but that would really be with all the bells and whistles.
Keep up the good work and hope all is going well with your boat.
Roger Olson
