Blister Barrier Coatings

Gosh, I have had such a hard time acquiring information on a
successful barrier coat to apply to Calliste’s hull.
Everything that I have read suggests or recommends Vinylester instead
of Epoxy.
Even sistership owner Geary Smith, Bcc Caylin, suggested a 3M Dura
Tech Vinylester coating.
First, I find out that Australia doesn’t allow import of 3M Dura
Tech, and now I am told by 3M reps., that Dura Tech in the states has
been discontinued, too.
Am I tearing my hair out or what!
Dow Chemical has developed a new hybred resin they call Derakane
Momentum Epoxy Vinyl Ester Resin. It has an epoxy chemical backbone
with vinylester properties too.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can compare or select a resin
that has the successful properties that 3M Dura Tech had ?

Dow Chem., says they will send some case history’s and some info, but
reps, cannot find lab test results that test for moisture penatration
resistance, or adhesion properties to polyester FRP.
What will Crystaliner / Morse Co., use now that Dura Tech is
discontinued ?
Any and all help is very appreciated, Douglas

I suggest that you e-mail Sumio at Sam Morse. Crystaliner/Sam Morse are
doing vynilester below the waterline as standard layup on all new BCC28’s.
That part of California is horribly restrictive on VOC’s etc…if they can
use it there, I would guess it to be legal anywhere else…
