Cape Horn Windvane

Hi all,

I have a Cape Horn windvane, still in the box. Never used. Includes mounting brackets for BCC.

Will sell it for $2600. If interested, please contact me.

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

I’m interested in the vane. I sent you a private message some time ago, but then had to travel and never followed up - or let you know I’d sent a private message. Perhaps you can check your inbox and get back to me.

Thanks,
Derek

Ahh. The private message section of the forum. We should rename it to the hidden message section; I completely missed it. I have emailed you offline.

Thanks!

Open the photo project gallery then select windvane to see how one is installed.

Rod,

I have read your excellent summary, many thanks. I had one concern with the Toucana model: that the paddle was very close behind the main rudder with the inside-the-boomkin installation. I emailed Yves about this who assured me no problem. I think you mention your own reservations about this in your summary - if I recall right. Do you still have concerns? Has it been a problem? I’ve bought the vane from Mark in any case. My elderly Fleming needs to be put out of its misery.

thanks and regards,

Derek

The Cape Horn works. As with all windvanes, they do not work very well in gusty conditions. We sail the Chesapeake Bay. On one “passage” of 55 nm, in 20-25 kt of wind, and 3 to 4 ft chop, the vane steered all the way. Oh, 30 kt of wind on the bay is “a lot of wind” because of the sea state.
