Channel Cutter Yachts

Saw an short add in latest Ocean Navigator for Channel Cutter Yachts
which only gave an e-mail address for info on a Hess designed BCC 34
with an overall of 43’ and displ of 20,000lbs–no other info and no
response to my e-mail for info. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks in advance.

I own a Itchen ferry 32 and its net weight is 12 tons,
24,000 pounds. Did you invert the numbers on the size
of the boat? 34? 43??? In any event, the 20,000
seems light to me. 28,000 to 30,000 seems much more
likely.

I do not know if this is the same outfit, but there is someone in
South Africa who owns the rights to a bigger Hess design, I thought
32 but it may be 34, who has advertised in the yachting press in the
past. I have heard rumors that deposits have been taken but no boats
have actually been produced. As you may know there was a similar
unfortunate situation with the builder of the Nor’sea 27 some years
back. As a buyer of a boat to be built, you have little recourse if
the builder is a crook. If the builder does not have an established
track record, I might try to put the deposits into escrow and take
ownership of the hull at least before releasing the money.

I believe they were doing the Canadian BCCs at one point.

The ones from South Africa are 36’. There is one being finished here in the
Houston, Texas area. Just the hull and deck came from South Africa, I don’t
know if they finish them or just provide the hull and deck like this one.
