Dow Epoxy Vinyl Ester

T Y Geary Smith for sharing your epoxy verses vinyl ester, barrier
coating information with us in your reply # 957 .

While searching the internet for the availability of Dow’s Dura Tech
vinylester here in Australia, I discovered a new product from Dow
called DERAKANE MOMENTUM EPOXY VINYL ESTER.

How can this be ??? Everyone I talk to says that Vinyl easter is a
polyester base, and epoxy is different base altogether.

Can anyone in our group help fill me in ? Douglas

I suspect, the resin is a block polymer, i.e. prepolymer high molecular weight molecule composed of a blocks of polyvinyl ester terminating in epoxy end groups or blocks.  When I worked in Dow's polycarbonate research group, the Midland R&D group was developing a polyester polycarbonate block polymer.  Block polymers offers unique physical characteristics, i.e. the best of both polymer types.  This is an assumption based on the name of the resin  - epoxy vinyl ester.
