Drop leaf table

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has dimensions as well as construction details for your salon table. My boat did not come with a table and I would like to build one. Also what is the mechanism under the table that holds the other side up. Any pictures would be great.

Thanks,
Brooks

Yeah I built one and you can see on my BCC blog, I also have some pics I could send of it installed. I used a ss post from west marine which worked out well and bolted the forard end to the bulkhead. It is as strong as houses and can be removed simply. Fitted a couple of legs underneath which fold but some folks have done some nice stuff with metal sliders. Also there have been a bunch of mast supported tables which fold completely away, have a look on the project part of the gallery. I can send full drawings if you wish but only by snail mail as I don’t have a scanner.

Hi Stewart, congrats on your boat she looks great! I looked through your blog and saw a picture of your table, it looks like a good design. I am always interested in other peoples ideas for skinning the same cat. Any other pics would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brooks

Hi Brooks, seems that every owner has a particular idea on what would be best for “Their” boat , this must have driven Sam Morse, almost crazy !

Personally, I would like to replace the factory installed table with a tilt away version, like the one I saw in our forum gallery .

I too would like to get info or a diagram on how to build the hinging mechanism , for this one , Any ideas out there ?

Brooks: Hi!

If you have a copy of the BCC Construction Manual, about halfway through there is a page headed “B-28 TABLE #53” which has what I assume to be Roger Olson’s drawings and dimensions for the drop leaf table.

And in the spreadsheet at the back of the Manual, Roger has listed the materials and suppliers for the ingredients.

Sorry, at the moment I don’t have on board either a scanner to scan those pages or a camera to photograph my table.

If you ask, someone is sure to have a copy of the Manual in *.pdf. Mine is in hard copy.

Cheers

Bil

A copy of The BCC Manual is located here:

Thanks Ben that’s exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks, Ben.

Brooks: check pages 92 and 118 of the pdf.

Thanks!! Ben, this will be invaluable for my stern tube project and other stuff.

Ben you are the man, there even pages in this file that I didn’t have in my manual. Wish I had it before.

Hi Brooks, I am not sure if you are interested in making the table removable so you can use the leaf as cockpit table or not. I began making up a detailed file on the steps but quit when I got the impression there was little interest. It is a lot of work to make up the photos and details. Anyway, if you are interested, I will attach some photos and what I wrote up in the beginning. Personally, I like to be able to remove the table and store it alongside the mast while underway. Also, it makes it possible to make a huge bed between the settees. Let me know if you want more information on this and I may continue working on it.

Oh, sorry, I cannot attach the files and photos here, it does not accept my photos. Email me at xiphias37@yahoo.com if you are interested and I will send them to you and walk you through it.
