Flexible water tanks

I am thinking of using a flexible water tank for potable water storage but was surprised to find out that they do not have baffles inside. Does anyone have any experience with flexible tanks pro or con. I didn’t find them mentioned in my forum search.

Does anyone have a good reason why they wouldn’t need to be baffled? I spoke to tech folks at Jamestown and Plastimo and both mentioned that the tank doesn’t need baffles because it shrinks as the water is drawn out. I told them both that I thought that would only address the need for a vent and that water would slosh around even if the tank was only half full.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Drew

Hello Drew:

I have used flexible tanks for the last 20 years.

There is no point to baffles in a flexible tank, as the tank collapses with the withdrawal of water. This has the benefit of minimizing the air above the water, thereby preventing growth of algae.

The tanks are fixed, usually with heavy cable ties to the sides of the compartment they are contained in.

A vent is absolutely not necessary; this will allow air into the tank, and prevent the tank collapsing to the volume of water. (Your deck filler should be airtight.)

I wouls steer you away from Plastimo, and suggest you look at Vetus products. They are far superior.

John,

Sorry I missed the last line in your first response. Thanks again for your help.

John,

Thanks for the quick response. Any suggestions regarding tanks
(manufacturers) to use or not to use?

Vetus makes a nice flex tank. We have use them without problems and
believe the water from these tanks tastes better than a water from a
built-in tank.
