The current funding to keep the forum open for one year is at $500. We need another $200 to make our goal of $700.
That represents either four donations at the $50 level or eight donations at the $25 level or some combination of the above.
We had an earlier pledge of $100. This would boost our fund raising to $600.
The goal is $700 by the end of this month. If we do not achieve this goal, then the site shuts down. It’s that simple.
The $700 is a bare minimum to keep this forum “alive.” Coledata Inc. has been very generous with their time, energy and willingness to keep the site going if forum operating costs are met. Very few companies are willing to do this. Next time you visit West Marine, ask them if they will sell you bottom paint at their cost.
We all know the answer to that question.
Bristol Channel Cutter owners, lovers, and dreams, we can not send you an appreciation gift, such as tickets to the Broadway hit, “BCC Sailing Before the Trades” or a CD copy of the program you have been reading and watching for the last several years. What we can give you is a Bristrol Channel Cutter Knowledge base that is right at your finger tips.
Before this program goes to Davey Jone’s Locker, we just need four donations at the $50 level or eight donations at the $25 level. What do you say mates, do we cut the hoses, open the seacocks and scuttle the BCC forum or do we lend a hand, rig the pumps, plug the holes, jury rig the mast and sail to keep the dream alive.
Wherein lies the answer, to bail or to scuttle. It’s up to you.
However, the site will not disappear, as there are already enough funds to maintain it for a year. What will happen if we don’t meet the target, is that it will not receive the current attention from our staff that it currently enjoys, and consequently could get attacked by spammers or people trying to post malware.
We recently ran a test using the FC forum, as it is not so heavily used. We removed all moderation from their forum, and, in the space of two hours had about 70 postings carrying spam and virus/trojan hooks.
The aim, ultimately, is to move to a users’ site, whereby the homepage will change from the current one to a Users page. We will probably still retain the Products pages as there is information therein that can be useful to owners and prospective buyers. Similaly, we will retain the Testimonials and Reviews page for the same reason.
We expect to be able to expand the links page to cover the various component suppliers that SLM currently uses. I have asked Sumio for a list which he says he will produce.
When I read back over all of the pages of the forum I am amazed by all who have benefited from what the forum has to offer. Hey, if nothing else it makes a good read for BCC owners and dreamers. There is and always will be a need for owners of these boats, Falmouth Cutters included, to exchange ideas and information, share tips on how to do this and that and just plain old “How ya doin’, wanna raft up?” Let’s keep this going as it is the one thing that we all own a part of regardless of the price. I feel this group is a great lot of people who are related just in owning a Sam L. Morse boat. We are family and the exchanges of information over the pages of the forum is the stuff that sticks together. I like the idea of being able to open up the Forum without the worry of advertising and spam. Life is much too complicated as it is to have to worry about someone out in cyberspace messing up something that you get satisfaction out of reading and information sharing. This a great site and what www.coledata has put together and maintains has my vote hands down. Let’s git’er done.
We are $75 short of our $700 to keep the forum sailing. Total donations are now at $625.
To all those who have donated - THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
We need three more sailors to donate $25 each to make the forum sound and shipship. That’s less than 7 cents a day.
The information and photos in the forum are priceless.
More importantly, as long as the ship sails she will have a following and there will be an intersting in purchasing these fine vessels we affectionately call the BCC. The forum helps maintain the market value of the boat. Economically, it is in the best interest of all BCC owners to help support this site.
We need three good mates to step aboard and help man this vessel.
