Greetings from Dingle, Ireland

Hello all-
Made it across the Atlantic without major problems. Six days to
Bermuda, including 8 hours hove-to due to ship’s crew being sick of
pounding headwinds. Fourteen to Horta, including 2 days of 175 and
178 miles. A 53 footer left same time as us and took 11 days, same
route. Azores were great, recommend them to all- would have liked to
spend a month rather than 2 weeks. Marinas are in Horta, and 2 new
ones on Terceira. All are $5.50 per day. Eight days to Baltimore
Ireland, near Fastnet. Only problems were a ed copper tubing on
the stove manifold due to fatigue- hose was a little tight and gently
tugged as the stoved gimballed-thank God I do not have . Also
managed to foul the jib while attempting to furl it, part in/part
out, with the sheets entrapped within. unable to roll it in or out,
too much windage to be able to heave to, could not effectively
blanket it with the main, shaking the hell out of the boat. I was
concerned it would eventually bring the rig down. The Pardey’s told
me this would happen if I commited the sin of roller furling. After
spending great thought on how to get up there to cut away the sheets,
i realized i could just pull them thru the blocks and pass them by
hand around the forestay. Eventualy got it unfouled and furled
properly. A bit of sail repair to be done in Bermuda, but otherwise
all seems well.
Things here on the West coast of Ireland are great, beautiful
scenery, nice people, interesting pilotage. Groceries are a bit
steep. Weather has been pleasant enough, highs near 70, usually
sunny believe it or not. Is it hot on the Chesapeake? Hope the
rendevous went well.
