Letcher''s Yaw Resistance test

Has anyone performed the yaw resistance test that Dr. Letcher describes
in his book on a BCC?

Based on our limited sailing experience with IDUNA, the yaw resistance of the boat appears to be high.
In answer to your first question about using the windvane to tack the boat, we tried this exercise on African Moon, our Nor'star Flicka.  The boat was fitted with a Cape Horn.  All attempts failed.  The Flicka also had a high yaw resistance because of her full keel.  Further, I believe the positive damping in the servo rudder linkage contributed to the inability of the self-steering system to bring the boat across the wind, i.e. rudder rotation is limited by the positive damping.  The Flicka loses boat speed rather fast when coming about and this would have also contributed.
Letcher's book is proving interesting reading and I can understand why the trim tab rudder should be partially balanced.
