Main and trysail track

Hi,

Anhinga mast has been striped from corrosion and repainted. Now I would like to install some kind of sail tracks for both main and trysail.
I’m considering Schaefer Batt Slide track.
Do anyone have experience on this?

Luis,
I would strongly recommend the tides marine system of sail track and slides. go here to take a look Track & Slide Systems | Tides Marine

I have friends here in the Caribbean that run a 65’ charter yacht and sail about 175 days a year. they installed this system and LOVE it.

The track is dead easy to install, even when the mast is in the boat without even going aloft.

The action is as smooth as silk. Can you say slicker than deer guts on a door knob? You can request a sample slide and piece of track from the company. I handled the sample from my friends. I was immediately impressed. As soon as my piggy bank is full enough, that is what I’m getting.

Then do a piece of external T track for the trys’l.

Hi Gary,
it seems really interesting. Thanks a lot, I’m going to investigate this solution.

Hi Luis,

I’ll second Gary’s suggestion. I have the Tides Strong Track on my BCC and love it ! For an ol’weak fellow like myself it makes life much easier.

I can 'strongly ’ recommend the strong track.

Hei Baba,
did you installed it just for the main or for the trysail too?

Hi Luis,

Unfortunately I don.t believe it’s possible to install a strong track for the trysail. So I have a separate shorter track for the trysail.

I will say though that installing the strong track for the mail was very easy to do. Even I managed to do it myself. And if I can do it anyone can. They are a bit pricy but it surely makes sail handling much easier.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Luis,
Since your trys’l doesn’t have battens you wouldn’t need the strong track. just a simple T track will do.

Gary,
My main is battenless and with no headboard too.

My quest here is to find a solution for both main and trysail (my main has only two reefs so the trysail is the third one), that will ease the sail movements and protects the mast grove from corrosion as I just finished from striping it and repaint it.

From what I’ve saw already the Tides seems to be my best choice (before I’ve considered the Schaefer Batt Slide and Harken Batt Car systems). My only concern is that it seems a little bulky and I’m not sure if I’m going to have enough mast area to have two tracks side by side.

Baba,
do you have any photos of your installed track?

Hi Luis,

I’m sorry but I do not have any photos and unfortunately it’s to late for me to take any this evening. But if you can give me until tomorrow afternoon I’ll be more than glad to take a few and see if I can figure out how to post them for you.
