Max-Prop

Group,
I ask PYI about the appropriate size and pitch for a Max-Prop to install on my BCC "Crystal Swan II".
I have a Yanmar 3GM30F with a 2.61:1 transmission. My current prop is 16 x 11 (2 blade, fixed).
I told them I wanted the 3 bladed classic Max-Prop.
Here is PYI's recommendation:
First Response:
Thank you for your interest in the Max-Prop feathering propeller for your
Bristol Channel Cutter.  From the information that you provided following is
my recommendation.

2 Blade 16" diameter by 11" pitch for a 1" shaft $1420.00
3 Blade 15" diameter by 10" pitch for a 1" shaft $2120.00

With regards to performance, both two and three blade propellers will power
the boat well in flat water.  The three blade has a major advantage when
going against heavy winds and seas the three blade will keep boat speed by
up to 30% better than the two blade.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or if you
would like to place an order.

Response to question about 15 v.s. 16 " Dia.
Dear Mr. Osoborne,
Thank you for your e-mail.  We have installed 16" 3 Blade propellers on the
Bristol Channel Cutter, but never with a 11" pitch.  A 16x11 3 blade
propeller would not allow the engine to attain its full Rpm.

I believe the final setting with the 16" was 9" pitch.  This would match the
loading of the engine with the 16x11 2 blade currently on the boat.  The
disadvantage of  using a 16" 3 Blade is that the initial pitch setting is
very low and that give you very little room to adjust the propeller pitch
downward and still have an efficient propeller.  In contrast with the 15"
set at 10" pitch you will still have room to decrease the pitch if needed.
Basically, either 15 or 16" propeller will work well to power the boat, the
15" just gives you more flexibility to adjust the pitch.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
