Maxprop pitch for a BCC

Is anyone out there running a Maxprop on their boat? In doing the re-power on Jolie Brise we are using the 15" Maxprop that came with the boat. I wrote to tech services at Maxprop and was told that " they would try a 20 degree pitch". Thoughts on this anyone? We are repowering with a 3YM30 Yanmar.

I am using a 16" Maxprop for the Yanmar 3GM30F. It is set to 16 degrees and 8.6" pitch. It seems to work well.

Hi Bob and Lois,
Itchen has a 15" three-blade Maxprop, which in 2006, after much
logging of RPM versus speed I reset from its original 22 degrees (!!)
to 18. 20 degrees was much too coarse a setting and the 3GM30F would
not reach rated RPM at full throttle. However it still got us up and
down the coast without trouble other than a tendency to smoke under
heavy load. I spoke with Maxprop staff back then, and I think they
may tend to recommend too high a pitch setting for a BCC. My opinion is
that either 16 or 18 is about right and that either will work –
perhaps 16 might be better than 18 but it is a hassle to change pitch
on the older Maxprops so I have left well enough alone. If I had a
current model Maxprop with externally adjustable pitch i would be
tempted to try 16. While trying to figure all this out I was led
astray by very inaccurate readings from our old defective tachometer
and all my rpm versus speed graphs for Itchen finally made much more
sense after getting a new tachometer. There is an extended thread
discussing all this in the archives in 2006.
Good luck,
