We are interested in a vane to replace the original
freehand(?) home built job. But would like to know
why you are selling the Monitor? We were leaning
towards a Cape Horn. Would appreciate your views.

I’ll be in the Chesapeake Bay for a while, probably at least
3-4 years, so I don’t need a wind vane. I’ve just
finished an offshore passage, with stops, from Houston to
Virginia and the Monitor worked just fine. Since my next
offshore passage is at least 3-4 years off, right now I’d
rather have the funds for a complete varnish of Godspeed,
inside and out. I’ve seen used Monitor’s out there from
time to time, so picking up another one should not be
a problem. Right now, I’d choose a Monitor, based on
my experience. I may consider freehand, and since Serrafyn
is nearby, I might spend some time with the Tilletts
discussing this, when the time comes for another passage.

I haven’t seen a Cape Horn. At least no one has pointed
one out to me. The only one I’ve seen on a BCC besides
a Monitor, is a vane called the Radcliff. I’ve seen 2
of them. In both cases, the owners had just installed
them and had not tried them out yet, so I do not know
how well they work.
