Need help in MD - Measuring a BCC Hull

Hello All,

My name’s Paul, but I go by Ethan. I’m the new owner of BCC Hull #33. I’d like to start by saying how appreciative I am of all those who have shared their experiences, knowledge, and insights on this forum over the years - it has been a wealth of information to try to absorb. I look forward to contributing in the not so distant future.

I hate to make my first post here a plea for assistance, but I’m in need of some help. By chance, are there any BCC owners active on the forum with boats in the Annapolis/Deale/Baltimore, MD area? Hull #33 is currently in Northern Wisconsin and I live in Maryland. The boat is also smack in the middle of a storage barn that is full to overflowing with boats, gear, etc. I’ve arranged with Loadmaster Trailers to build a trailer for the boat, but I need a hull from which to take some external measurements. The access to my boat in it’s current location just isn’t conducive to the level of accuracy I want to stake the cost of this trailer on.

If anyone in the MD-ish area has a boat out of the water that they’d let me measure on for an hour, I’d be happy to buy lunch or cocktails or whatever.

Thanks - I look forward to getting to know everyone as part of this adventure!

Ethan

Hello Ethan:

Boats on the Chesapeake:
Try using this link to the database of vessels:
http://samlmorse.com/forum/database.php?st=&order_by=home_port&order=asc

Annapolis: 3 potentials
Baltimore 1 potential
Deale 1 potential
Deltaville, VA 2 potentials
Flag Harbor 1 potential
Galeseville 1 potential
Rock Hall 2 potentials

Username from the database should allow you to private message the owner. I have used the word “potential” because: We don’t always get to hear of change of ownership and change of home port, and also because South of Baltimore, the need to haul for the winter is diminished.

Another thought: The mold for the vessel is in Port Townsend
Cape George Cutter Marine Works, Inc. can be found at
1924 Cape George Road
Port Townsend, WA 98368
Tel: (360) 385-3412 and it would be a cinch to get them to do your measuring.

Thanks, John - those are great leads and suggestions!

Fiddlers Green is on the hard at The Chesapeake Yacht Center in Middle River Md about an hour NE from Baltimore. She is starboard of the main gate, cant miss her…

Matt, Thank you very much! I’ll get over there either this weekend or next. I really appreciate this!

Ethan

Cymba (#77) is in Deale. She’s in the water but we’re at Shipwright Harbor Marina if we can help.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks, Mike! At the moment I think what I need is underbody measurements for the trailer supports, but I appreciate you weighing in and your offer. I’d very much like to chat with you sometime about the local sailing in Deale, as my plan at the moment is to commission the boat at Herrington and begin to learn the Chesapeake from there. Of course, any insight you have would be gratefully received as I’m relatively new to the area.

Best regards,
Ethan

Hi, Matt again, I’ll be working on my bottom blisters from Memorial weekend onward for a week or two depending how it goes…I’d love the opportunity to get together with other owners for exchange of info etc…
If anyone’s out and about and would like to grab a beer give me a ring

Ethan- Happy to get chat; sent you a PM.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I haven’t received a PM, could you resend? Also, I think Matt (who also posted on this thread) and I are going to get together this coming weekend and grab a beer while he’s in town working on Fiddlers Green; if that’s of interest to you please let me know and we’ll be sure to roll you in on the planning of where/when/etc. Otherwise, hopefully we can chat in the near future!

Cheers,
Ethan

Hi Ethan,

My BCC28, Bella, (ex-Aloha) hull #95, is currently on the hard in Oxford, MD. You are welcome to take measurements from her if you’d like. Bella is in the storage area at the Hinckley yard in Oxford, which is on Bank St. at the foot of Town Creek. The mast is unstepped and currently at the Hinckley paint shop in Easton, having been painted. Awaiting new shrouds with Hi-Mod compression fittings.

Ethan: I re-sent. Just want to confirm you received.

pbsail: We were thinking of heading over to Oxford for a day or two near the end of this month. Any thoughts/hints/tips for the trip & stay in Oxford would be very welcome!

Cheers,
Mike

Mike, Got it and sent you a reply…thanks for the heads up!

pbsail, Thanks very much for your kind offer! I think I have what I need for right now, but if that turns out not to be the case, I may come back to you on this. Great to find another BCC owner in the area. Hopefully we can get everyone together in the not too distant future!

Cheers,
Ethan
