Hi Skippers, Have a look at my recently release 15 min short on the building and sailing of my boat Tansy Lee…see some familiar faces, that of Lyle Hess, Larry and Lin Pardey, Sea Cap- Gary Felton, Roger Olson, Sumio Oya and many more.This movie spans 30 years .
Wah! A lovely piece of work, Mike. You’re fantastic!
For any who have not followed the link to the Youtube video, I commend it to you.
The video focuses on Mike Anderson’s Thomas Gilmer-designed boat, Tansy Lee. And covers parts of her construction (including a small image of her bowsprit being constructed, apparently without the benefit of a lathe).
The video is also about the wider BCC/Sam L Morse Co community. You’ll see mentions of (in no particular order):
Lin & Larry Pardey;
Lyle C. Hess;
George Hylkema (president of SLM Co 1992-95);
Roger Olson (president of SLM Co. 1995-98, formerly master of the Lyle C. Hess designs Serrafyn, and BCCs Xiphias and Nereus);
Sumio Oya (president of SLM Co. 1998-2008 and who built Zygote);
Doug Schmuck;
Geoff Jenks (former master of BCC Fiddler’s Green and an FC, and a former shipwright at SLM Co and who also worked on Zygote); and
many others.
Mike built (and originally installed) the Freehand steering System, which Larry Pardey designed, on Zygote.
Several BCCs carry work in bronze or timber done by Mike and his Anderson Boatworks.
I really enjoyed the video and sent the youtube link to Sumio. He replied overnight:
"It’s a wonderful video!
I didn’t know this video. Well, he was telling me that he is making a video when I was Newport Beach this June and shoot Tansy Lee with my drone.
Thank’s for letting me know about this video. Mike didn’t mention to me before."
Again, thanks
John
P.S. If you ave a digital image of the boatworks picture, I would love to hang a copy on my office wall. It reminds me of the two months when Mark dragged Jules and I to the Spaghetti Factory every time it was his turn to pay, for the two months we spent fitting out “Salute”.
Hi Friends, Sorry for the mess up on the first link, as I did have a name misspelled and couldn’t not fix it, Thanks to Bil Hansen for bringing to my attention. So here is the up to date link once again and should be ok…
To those who have chimed in with the kind words, thanks…it was fun to dig and fine photos and put something together…special thanks to Sumio for the Drone footage.
Your video shows how passionate you are for the ocean, BCC’s, and your wonderful wooden sailing ship! Awesome short film. It makes me want to take Kelsea out for a nice long single handed sail. I’m so glad you documented everything you did, it makes me remember to take those videos so I can show my Grandkids some day what Grandpa did when he was younger. Thanks Mike.
