Douglas and CALLISTE: Hi!
As for systems operational, and maintaince lists, I commend Bil of
BCC Zygote, for sharing his two lists with us. Good and complete
lists are hard to compile and take sailing time away from us.
I’ve not worked out how to add an attachment to an e-mail to the
group yet (or whether it would be welcome). I’m close to completing
the Plumbing system section for ZYGOTE’s Operating Manual and
Maintenance Checklist. One other BCC owner has sent me a copy of his
Operating Manual, so I’ll move forward a bit faster now, but I still
expect that I shan’t move towards a final draft for some weeks.
I’m organising the Op Man around tasks, rather than the equipment. In
detailing how to do each task, I’m also trying to detail the
equipment (BCC 116 shares equipment with many of the more recent
hulls), so that the Op Man also has the info to order spares and to
work out how the amp-hour drain etc. As well as an aide-memoire, I’m
targeting the Op Man at less technically minded crew and whoever
becomes the next owner of ZYGOTE, when that time comes.
If you’d like me to send you a copy (as a Microsoft Word document)
of my current draft, send an e-mail to bilh@pd.jaring.my and tell me
whether you want the MS Word docs attached (the Op Man is about 60 K,
the checklist about 50K), or a ZIPped version of same.
Bil, are you in Penang, Malaysia with your BCC now ?
Yes. Zygote (BCC 116) is moored at Batu Maung, the only (but somewhat
lame) excuse for a marina on Penang Island - it’s on the SW corner.
We don’t see many BCCs here, but Mary White was here with her
Falmouth Cutter last year (2001) and Chris Edwards and XIPHIUS are
not that far away to the N.
Currently, my BCC “Calliste” is ready for her bottom barrier
coating,
just waiting for the fall climate/humidity change, before
application, here in Queensland, OZ.
Interesting. We’re planning a voyage from Penang, down the Malacca
Strait to Singapore, and then via the Riau Strait and the Indonesia
archipelago to Australia, tentatively scheduled for 2004. Our aim is
to sail to Timor with the NE/NW monsoon and cross the Arafura Sea to
make entry into Aus at Darwin or Groote Eylandt during the inter-
monsoon lull. And then sail west through the Torres Strait and make
our way down the Queensland coast to Moreton Bay, looking for a home
berth at a marina at Scarborough or Manly.
We’re charted up for the voyage to Timor, but we’ve not bought charts
for Australia yet.
Have you sailed the Northern Territory coast or the N Queensland
coast, esp. Torres Strait?
Cheers
Bil
