Nor''Sea 27

Bill:

Me thinks the boat in your photo is a Nor'Sea 27, not a Shannon as previously stated.

Rod, You're correct. I am pretty much Lyle Hess junkie, nothing else really comes close to my eye. A BCC wannabe but for now, I love the NorSea. A well built little cruiser with many of the same attributes of the BCC or probably better said that it has the attributes of a Lyle Hess design - just a great little boat.

NorSea is a wonderful boat. I have been a fan for many years and with
the skyrocketing price of BCC’s it deserves a BIG boost in popularity.
A trailerable boat that can safely carry you anywhere is a very rare
bird indeed.
I’m amazed that they are not amongst the most popular of boats, they
deserve to be.

I have a copy of Wayne Carpenter's The Voyage of Kristina.  If you would like it, send me a private message with your address and I will mail it to you.  The Nor'Sea is a great boat.  A friend owned one for 16 years and sailed it all over the Gulf of Mexico.  Lenora's first coastal passage was aboard this boat.  The name of the boat was Saker and she clocked about 150 miles in 24 hours in 20 knots of wind - a very respectable days run.

That is very kind of you Rod - but I have a copy of that book - it came with the boat as a matter of fact. They are great boats - I have clocked 130 in 24 hours with a dying wind the last 4 of that. It will sail rings around many 30' racers, especially off the wind. Can't point with them but on a longer run, close hauled in about 20 knots, I have outdistanced a Morgan 33 by nearly 20 miles in a 30 hour run. I suspect that it has something to do with the comfort factor over a longer distance that makes it easier to sail the boat at its maximum. I used to do the Sunday round the buoys races with my daughter as crew when she was about 12 - the surprising speed plus the nearly shameful handicap we got, we always turned heads. A new set of tanbark sails to try out this weekend - I'm outta here!  Thanks again, B
