I have a Pardey style backstay windvane for sale - includes windvane, bronze trim tab gudgeons, trim tab, etc.
Asking price is $500 not including shipping.
The windvane and control wheel with counter balance weighs 13.5 lb. The windvane is a NACA 15% symmetrical airfoil constructed of GRP and aircraft plywood over a Styrofoam core. The control wheel is fitted with ball bearings and constructed of GRP over aircraft plywood. The windvane is designed to provide the maximum torque based on data from a NASA wind tunnel simulator.
I built the unit but installed a cheap plastic U-joint in the trim tab control shaft, hence there was too much play. After “messing” with the unit and not wishing to invest $200 in a stainless steel U-joint, I removed the unit from the boat and installed a Cape Horn windvane on the boat. I selected the Cape Horn based on previous experience with this windvane.
The trim tap should be redesigned (I have dimensions) and rebuilt. I used a trim tab that was giving to us when we purchased IDUNA.
I do not want to discuss selling and details of the vane on the forum. If you want more information, please send me a private message.
Attached are five photos of the Pardey style windvane.
