pricing of used bcc

i am actively looking for a used bcc and am seeking info on pricing
of them. i just looked at a sam morse built/owner finished boat, 1986,
very well maintained but outfitted only with the most basic equipment
and original sails. i understand that establishing value is quite
challenging and to some degree it is “how bad do you want it” and “what
the market will bear”. any advice or leads on where to look for some
info would be appreciated. i already used the boat/us pricing service
which said the boat was worth $65k, of course sight unseen and a
disclaimer about these boats being “priced anywhere” due to small
numbers and high interest. thanks in advance.

John,
Having looked at more than 6 BCC’s before buying my 1990 factory built
Crystal Swan II, I can attest
to the fact that pricing varies greatly and often does not reflect value.
The most important step in establishing value is getting any vessel you are
seriously interested in
surveyed by a competent marine surveyor, preferably NAMS or SAMS certified.
Even after having my vessel surveyed by a surveyor who was both NAMS and
SAMS certified,
I found during my refit that there was rot in the bow sprit, significant
corrosion in the mast and I had
a severe case of osmotic gel coat blisters.
Value is in the detail of the inspection your surveyor and yourself perform
before you make any offers.

I know it is difficult by you have to get past your desire to own one and
approach the deal with a very
critical eye.
By the way I paid $90,000 for a 1990 bcc with a ton of extras in 1997.

Good Luck
Steve Osborne

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I would be interested in the
responses you get. Please forward the responses to me if you don’t mind.
Somthing I do know is that BCCs are not production boats, and there are a
limited number of buyers who would consider buying a BCC, so you might have
a small advantage in the negotiations. Thanks. Sidney L. Patin, Colorado
