Re: boarding ladders

I had a ladder fabricated by a shop in Michigan called Tops In
Quality. It is more expensive than Rogers version ($650) but is very well
done. It lives in the lifeline gate and pivots on hinges affixed to the
bulwarks. I’m quite pleased with it. I have photos if you are interested.

Does anyone have or know of plans for a boarding ladder specifically
for a BCC?

I recall that Roger Olson gave a detailed description of his adaptation of
a stock West Marine boarding ladder on this list a year or two ago. A search
of the BCC archives should find it. I’m thinking of doing the same thing
myself. Good luck,

Greetings,
As a previous owner of #93 "Pelagic".  Now "Ariel"  I still follow this site.
I did design a boarding ladder that fit and folded within the gates on the beam.  It was 60" long as I recall. Folding in three sections.  The main part of the design was the "baby" stansions that fit just behind the bulwarks in the gate area.  This allowed attachment with two pins.  and was easily deployed or moved to the opposite beam.  It worked perfectly and never got in the way of anything when folded.
I had it built by Tops In Quality.  A bit pricy at around $400.  But it was worth it. Next time I would spend even a bit more for the flat rungs.
I supplied them with a 3D database as well as 2D drawings and specifications.  They are usually good about keeping this information and should be able to retreive it.
Good Luck,
Russ...

I purchased the ladder Roger outlined in his excellent and detailed instructions. (About $140.- from West Marine) The ladder is high quality with flat rungs and collapses easily for storage. I opted a different attachment method with the mounting brackets on the outside of the hull as I was nervous about something that had even a remote chance of tearing off a toe nail on inside of the rail. Mounted between the upper and aft lower shroud, it is not really that unsightly and the ratlines are a great handhold for last step or two onto the deck. It works great!
