Re: measurements

BCC Group,

I noticed that some of you are interested in the specifications for the BCC.
I attached a copy of the specifications we use on all BCC’s for the past 9
years. If your boat is older than this or Canadian built these numbers may
not be the same.
This attachment is Excel formatted and some of you may not be able to open
the information. If you can not open the attachment, please let us know by
e-mail and I will send as a text formatted. What I am attaching here is
only the basic specs.

Greetings,
Do any of you fine gentlemen (ladies notwithstanding)
know the measurements: I J P E? For the BCC28 of
course. If they are listed at Sam L. Morse, well I
quess I must of missed it. The eye sight is not what
it used to be.

Please find attached the rigging/sail specifications we measured for IDUNA.  Note: IDUNA's bowsprit measured from gammon iron to cranse iron is 6" longer than a Sam L. Morse BCC.  I strongly recommend you measure the boat.

As Rod pointed out, as the boats are semi-custom and subject to
alteration post-construction, one should measure the boat in
question. The Canadian boats have different spar builders than the
California boats which typically carry Forespar rigs. Mine (CA
built) has a max main size like Rod’s, but my actual sail is 31.75
x 14.2 -go figure! My bowsprit is also longer than stock. My “J” is
18 feet and from deck to jibstay attachment is 38’-4" although my jib
halyard sheaves are about 6" below this. My beater spinnaker is 24’
on the foot which is too short as it rubs the jib, although my
spinnaker pole is only 14 feet rather than the “regular” 18 footer.
It works fine as a whisker pole on the lapper and is a little long for
the yankee. I think that when ordering sails the typical suggestions
based on percent LP may lead to some problems. I had one sailmaker
who proposed a 170 drifter that would have been difficult to sheet as
the boat is not long enough. I find my 110% lapper plenty big-did
over hull speed (max 7.15 kts)this evening with just the jib, no main
or staysail.
Hope this helps.
