I have always rowed my dinghy. Sailing in the Great Lakes has

am going to upgrade to an air floor, 9’ Zodiac. I would really like to use
a Honda 2 because of the weight. Both for ease of storage and ease of
hoisting. Am I going to hate the performace?

You didn’t mention what type of dinghy you’re rowing but the
indication that you feel an ‘air floor 9’ Zodiac’ would be an upgrade
leads me to believe it isn’t a hard dinghy. But surely you haven’t
been rowing an inflatable?

In any case, a 2 hp engine will greatly ease your back, though to the
detriment of you tranqility. The performance of the Zodiac will be
okay, but don’t expect it to plane.

For outboard stowage I installed a 2 x 6 teak board between the lower
shrouds just high enough above the deck for the skeg to clear. The
engine is mounted from the inside so as not to foul the sheets. I
carried a 15 hp Yamaha in this position for many year and many miles
without any apparent degrading of the wire.

Hi Tom,
I hope all went well with the launch and you are finally sailing. I
have not been on line with the group because I am susposed to be
cruising but as you know that fell through…for awhile. In response
to your question…we would all like to find a good answer to that
one. What I did on Xiphias was I had a tang welded to the inside of
one boomgallow stanchion. To this tang I bolted a piece of teak that
would accept the outboard. The reason is is inside is so it will not
get in the way of the main sheets. The only problem I found was that
is does get in the way sometimes.
