Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to show everyone some pictures of the engine removal from Vixen. We got the Bukh DV20 out successfully with some block and tackle off the boom and help from the winch.
Steps I followed:
- Blocked the boom at the gooseneck to prevent damage from the weight of the engine.
- Used two 2x6s tied to the engine to use as lifts to pull the engine off the mounts, then took them off.
- Tied a somewhat self-equalizing mesh of knots to attach to the block and tackle connected by a caribaner. Winched the engine up slowly.
- Lifted the remaining distance once we got the engine close with the team of friends that was there. I couldn’t do any lifting as I have a neck injury from a car accident.
- Reattached the 2x6s to the engine and used that as a holding spot to carry the engine back to the truck.
I have since replaced the camshaft (the previous one was not keyed) and rebuilt part of the rest of the engine. It is looking like I might be able to get it back in this weekend or next.
Thanks,
Ben
