BCC Rendezvous - Penang 2003, started on the afternoon
of Tuesday Dec 3 (a few days later than scheduled)
with the arrival of Douglas Walling (who has just
single-handed from Tin Can Bay in Australia, with a
port call in Singapore) on BCC CALLISTE.
Plans for Rendezvous activities were made over a
pleasant evening meal at a Chinese restaurant.
Activities scheduled so far include terrestrial
explorations (the heritage downtown of Georgetown,
Penang; Buddhist temples of Theravada and Mahayana
traditions; a Hindu temple; the Kapitan Keeling Masjid
(a mosque); a local boatyard, to see local traditional
boatbuilding skills; a fishing port used by
small-scale fishers; and the old shipping and boating
services part of downtown); and a boat inspection, to
swap ideas and tell stories.
The Rendezvous ranks were swelled by Claus, a Danish
cruiser (left Denmark 5 years ago) on a Great Dane 28
(lighter in displacement than a BCC - I’m yet to
explore the beast).
Cheers
Bil
