Sails

I am interested in new sails for my BCC. I would like to get some
like the ones that came on the boat. They are a traditional cut, or
at least that’s what I’ve been told by a sailmaker. He strongly
urges me to change to their standard sails with cruising option. Has
anyone out there gotten tanbark sails made recently that they’re
happy with? If so, could you let me know the name and phone number
of the sailmaker?

Thanks,
Doug

Doug, I bought a new set of tanbark sails from Lee
Sails in '98 and have been very happy with them. I
shopped around all the bigger lofts and not many of
them had the Bainbridge tanbark cloth I wanted or
wanted extra to make them in that cloth.
You might find a smaller local loft to make them for
you, but I doubt if they will match the price (because
of labor costs) as Lee Sails.
I got a main, genoa and staysail, plus mainsail
cover and staysail deckbag for about $1,850 plus
shipping. (A quote from Doyle rep who is a friend was
$3,200.)
If you go to their site they will give you a quote.

They also have reps in most areas if you want to
discuss the finer points of your particular needs.

Thanks Stan, I think I’ve seen a rep. in my area. I’ll give them a try. I
appreciate the help.

Stan,

What is it about Bainbridge tanbark that you specifically wanted?

Thanks,

Tod

At the time I was under the impression it was the
best cloth and having seen a sample, I liked the color
better than any others I’d looked at.
