Ok, so I’m getting old but want to keep sailing. Going to roller furling on the staysail. Just wondering how the head area with a block works ie halyard wrap. TIA
Also for you youngins who can remember, what was your luff length?

so i put furlers on the genny hesdsail and the jib i furl them early in a blow and leave just anogh of the jib for stabikity and reef the main. no need to leave the safety of the cockpit.
Mischief had a furling staysail when we bought her. I thought it was silly to have a furler on such a small sail - until we sailed her a season. We found ourselves using the staysail all the time - much more so than with the hank on sail we had on Calypso. We have since added a staysail furler on Calypso.
Mischief has the standard Forespar mast. The staysail furler is a small profurl unit. Profurl has a “wrap stop” piece that clamps onto the stay above the foil. It engages a small stainless steel tang on the upper swivel when you raise the sail - thus preventing halyard wraps. It works as designed.
Sorry - I don’t have the luff length of that sail handy. Regardless, I think you’d want to remeasure the max luff length on your installed furler as there is likely to be variation from boat to boat - with variations in rake, hardware, and installation details.
Cheers - Jeremy
thanks Jeremy. Are you using the external block or do you have a built in sheave and internal halyard?
Using an external block. It works fine. Mischief’s mast has no internal halyards or other lines. Just the cable conduit.
