i am changing out my hanked on staysail for a furler. Any favorite models?
We had a Profurl on the jib that did the job of about 15 years in the S.Pacific. That model was out of production about 5 years ago when I decided to put a fuler on the staysail, so I chose the nearest current Profurl model. It turned out to be somewhat heavier duty so I put the new one on the jib and moved the old one to the staysail.
It surprised and annoyed me that the new drum had a lower capacity than the old drum, requiring a lot of core removal on the furling line. No other complaints. However I don’t recommend Profurl over other brands–I just stuck with the brand we already had. I was able to buy it at a discount through a friend’s business account.
