East Coast rendezvous 2004

OK everyone, time to start thinking about the summer plans and a BCC get together. We (Whisper) are in Jacksonville and will be heading north when the season allows and would love to meet with some other owners. We are very flexible on location and timing so let’s start the ball rolling. Any interest?

Great News About the Rendezvous of 2004!
?
Let’s see if we can find a location and date that might work for a bunch of people. So…Berny…how far North are you thinking of going. There is quite a concentration of BCCs in Florida, maybe we should have a kickoff gathering in Florida and try to hook people up who also might meet points North. I’d like to make sure that the location allows for people to fly or drive if they can’t make it by BCC. I’d certainly love to go to Florida for an early rendezvous to kick off the season.
?
What thoughts have you? What?cruising plans are brewing out there?

Hi Kate and all:
?
We on Calypso are taking advantage of every non-freezing weekend to work on the boat in the dreams of another Chesapeake rendezvous, hoping for June sometime (or late September) and possibly St. Mary’s?? We had floated that idea at the last Chesapeake rendezvous and have been keeping it in mind ever since. That wouldnt be bad for non-sailing bcc enthusiasts as that area is very close to DC and a lovely place to explore. What say anyone else?

My vote goes for St. Mary’s in late September 04

Thanks for the quick follow up, everyone.

We hoped to get the thought brewing as soon as the holidays were over and appears it was not an original idea.

Whisper can make any of the the dates or locations mentioned so far. We’ll be working north and back south during the season so can be pretty flexible about timing.

Plans so far are to depart Jacksonville mid-May and start north.

Looking forward to meeting some other owners and seeing interesting boats. First beer is on us. Ray and Berny

Aloha…Ray and Berny, and all you sailors out there.
?
I love it! You’re going sailing this summer. While I’ve not heard from the Florida BCC owners, but in my perfect world, I’d like to challenge the Southern BCCs to gather in St Augustine in May. We could all get together to send Ray and Bernie NORTH.
?
Then we all gather on the Chesapeake, Annapolis maybe, in September or maybe Boat Show time…October 10ish…?

We are hauling out in May before starting north and won’t make a St.
Augustine meeting. We still like the sound of plans in the Chesapeake
and can make almost any timetable work. Hope this finds everyone
scheming and dreaming of plans for the summer. Ray

Thanks Ray,
?
It occurs to me that you and me are the only ones talking about this Rendezvous. I hope everyone is dreaming and scheming. Sounds like I need to pick up the phone and shake the bushes.?I’d love to lock in a date. ?

Dear Kate,
?
My wife and I are very interested for the Sept. or Oct. Rendezvous by land. We are in the process of restoring our second BCC, and will not be ready to sail during these dates.?
?
Ray owns our first BCC that I restored back in 1994. We would like to see Bernie and Ray, and “Cats Paw I”, ie: Whisper.
?
We would be glad to meet in St. Augustine in May. We are 5 hours south of St. Augustine on the West Coast.?
?
If anyone can tell us “how to post pictures” while we do our restoration on the boat, we would love to share them the group.?
?
Keep us posted,
?

Hi Folks:

I’d love to attend the East Coast BCC rendezvous. Probably would
attend sans BCC as I doubt that I can get the time to sail the boat
up AND back. Having said that I would vote for the October time
frame in conjunction with the boat show.

St Augustine: Since Kate’s original idea was to “send off” Berny and
Ray in Whisper and they can’t make I don’t know if there is any
further interest for a “southern” meeting. If there is any interest
I could be there with our BCC as it is just a short hop. Any other
southern boats interested?

Hi Ed,
?
Thanks for the enthusiasm and info. Gosh. So you are?restoring BCC number 2. I’m not surprised as nothing?even close to these great vessels.
?
Ray and Berny say they are leaving for North very early and no one else in the South parts have been enticed so far to come out for an event. Would you make to the Chesapeake for a fallish event?

Thanks, Kate,
Yes, late September is prime sailing time on the Chesapeake. We did a
family cruise about 15 years ago which included a stop at Vera’s White
Sands, and it’s definitely worth the trip – a somewhat surreal South Seas
island outpost overlooking one of Southern Maryland’s most attractive
creeks. Good food, protected anchorage & marina. And, there are dozens of
cruising stopovers within a day or two from Solomon’s on the lower Potomac &
Eastern Shore – Cambridge, Oxford, St. Michaels, Galesville, and more, plus
of course the Annapolis Boat Show for those who stay on. For those not on a
tight schedule perhaps we could make this a moveable feast and after Vera’s,
do a relaxed race-rendezvous onward to Oxford, St. Michaels, Galesville,
Annapolis . . . ? Good anchorages and restaurants at all of the above, and
just as many possibilities to the south.

Hello all:

I’ll put the late September dates on the calendar and just plan on
having the kindergartner out of school for a couple of days on either
side of that time!

Exciting news, to be sure. The crew of Calypso is primed and ready!

Cheers,
Nica

Thanks for being a very good facilitator, Kate. Your choice of timing
and location sounds wonderful. Please count us in although we’ll
anchor out due to budget. We’re really looking forward to meeting
other owners and seeing a new area. Thanks again, Kate. Ray and Berny

We are leaving the marina soon to begin a summer on the east coast
and are planning to be at the Sept. 25(?) meet at Vera’s. We haven’t
seen much response so far and are asking if the rendezvous is still
on or not. How about a show of hands? Kate, maybe you have a loose
tally of comers. We will lose our internet access end of month so
thanks to you all for the input and cyber-comraderie. We’ll look in
as we can, this is to be a 3-5 year trip and long times between
access. Good sailing, everyone Ray and Berny

IDUNA with Rod and Lenora will be at the East Coast Rendezvous.

Our current plan is to sail to Maine leaving Memorial weekend. Destination is Belfast on Penobsco Bay. Weather permitting, we plan to take the outside route from Cap May, Delaware Bay. Perhaps we will rendezvous in Maine.

I’ll be coming to the rendezvous by land.

Calypso is planning to be there.

Nica

Itchen will attend; she’s now at Spring Cove Marina in Solomon’s, just a few
miles from Vera’s.

Aloha Sailors,

Yes the Rendezvous is on!
Sept 24-25-26 in St. Leonard Creek off the Patuxent River
Vera’s White Sands Marina

I’ll post more later as I’m catching up after returning from the fabulous SF Rendezvous of Lyle Hess designs. We had a great time. I’m privileged to have met the BCC people and the NorSea people of the SF Bay Area. It was a great time and well worth the effort!

So I hope you’ll make the effort and put this on your calendar.

I hope to make a recognizance visit soon to Vera’s so I can tell you first hand what to expect.

Stand by!

Aloha Kate
