BCC 28 #22 Defiance Restoration

Hello all, I am exited to share i have recently acquired and am now continuing the restoration on hull #22 formerly Waxwing. I hope to continue documenting the work going on her as i get her back into ship shape. Some background myself, i am a rigger based and florida and this is 3rd tradtional British styled hull and can confidently say there are no better boats. I look forward to the future projects and hopefully seeing some of you out on the water.

She was the first BCC I ever saw, back about twenty years ago in Pensacola. What part of Florida are you in? I’ve got #122 in Pensacola now.

I am located in the stuart area along the east coast of florida.

Finished removing the reminants of the old rotten bits, unfortunately they were poorly constructed and also fiberglassed above the deck which led to their demise. Are all BCC bitts tabbed into the hull with the proper bevel cut in the bottom of the bitts?

Anyways now I can start on the larger project of replacing my non-existant coring in the foredeck.

Len Hull #22 Defiance

Hi Len

No, the bottom of the bits are not typically in contact with the hull. On Mischief, the bottom of the bits have a 90 degree round, are bolted to the bulhead with 3 bolts each, and have a couple/few inches clearance underneath to the hull.

If you have not discovered the build manual yet - here it is (several docs on that page). I have not checked whether it shows that particular detail:

Cheers!

Thank you for the info, I actually have a printed out manual that I had our sail repair guy at my work sew on the left edge with his machine to make it into a book, pretty happy with how that turned out, for reference those machines can sew through 3/4” plywood!

I have to see if that is something I can replicate for the bitts as the upper half of the bulkhead was not structural and only had a couple small fiberglass tabs. I do not hate that design on my boat because the bitts are very secure being tabbed into the hull with additional fastners on the lower part of that bulkhead, which is much stronger than the top half with the doors I removed, I will update with a picture later today but I am currently thinking of just replacing it how it was attached down bellow. Anywasy thanks for insight.

Happy halloween folks, here is my scare for the day.
